La Liga Santander Xavi Highlights importance Of Victory Over Atletico Madrid

Coach Xavi of Barcelona emphasized the significance of his team’s victory over Atletico Madrid as the LaLiga front-runners got back to winning on Sunday.

A goalless streak that includes back-to-back 0-0 league matches was broken by Ferran Torres’ lone goal in a 1-0 victory at Camp Nou.

The win also increased Barcelona’s dominating advantage over rival Real Madrid, who could be excused for being preoccupied with their defense of their Champions League title, to 11 points.

Barca is within eight games of winning the championship, but Xavi insisted that there is still work to be done.

There is nothing done, although it is exciting,” he said.

“Here, nobody feels like a champion, and if someone does, we will tell them that nothing has been done.

“If we lost, they were eight [points back]; it was crucial.

“Beyond the individualities, we played a very good game.

“It was crucial to win after two draws, and it’s one more step.”

Xavi bemoaned that Barca’s victory was not as easy as it might have been since Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha were among those to blow opportunities.

“I have the feeling of having wasted opportunities to make it 2-0; they were very clear,” he said.

“Rapha’s, Robert’s, one of Gavi’s at the penalty spot.

“In the end, you end up suffering in a game that you deserved to win by more than one goal.”
