Napoli Osimhen Goal Seals Scudetto Title For Napoli After 33 Years

Victor Osimhen’s goal against Udinese resulted in a 1-1 tie, giving Napoli their first Serie A title in 33 years.

Napoli knew a point would be enough to win their first Scudetto since the Diego Maradona era going into Thursday’s match at Dacia Arena after missing the opportunity to win the title in front of their own supporters on Sunday.

As it should be, talisman Osimhen, who has scored 22 league goals this season, equalized Sandi Lovric’s opening goal to give Napoli their third Serie A championship.

Udinese did not quite have the same dedication to postponing Napoli’s party, which is sure to be one for the ages, as Salernitana, Napoli’s regional rival.

The traveling Napoli supporters were the loudest in the opening minutes, but Lovric’s magnificent finish into the top-right corner in the 13th minute muted their exuberance.

Osimhen attempted to end a three-game scoreless skid in Serie A by forcing a save from Marco Silvestri shortly after, but Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s plea for a penalty was denied after a VAR review.

Just after the half-hour mark, Osimhen came near with a header, but Napoli were fortunate that Lovric had failed to beat Alex Meret twice earlier in the play at the opposite end.

Though Silvestri palmed out Kvaratskhelia’s low attempt, Napoli’s number nine would not be denied again, and seven minutes into the second half, Osimhen slammed home an equalizer.

Osimhen believed he had made it 2-1 with 23 seconds left, but the goal was reversed because of a foul in the build-up.

Despite Luciano Spalletti’s apparent tension on the sidelines, his players maintained composure while playing to a draw that will go down in their annals.
