Uganda SC Villa goes top after Vipers SC and KCCA FC drop points

SC Villa reclaimed their lead at the top of the Ugandan Premier League table after defeating relegated Black Power 1-0 at Mutesa II Stadium Wankulukuku on Tuesday.

The victory came after title-chasers – champions Vipers SC and KCCA FC – dropped points as they settled for draws in their respective matches.

Vipers, who were leading the table heading into Tuesday’s matches, managed a 1-1 draw against BUL FC while KCCA drew 0-0 against Busoga United.

With one game left to end the season, Villa are now top of the 15-team table with 52 points, while Vipers are second on 50 and KCCA third also on 50 points.

Bbaale Charles scored Villa’s winner in the 60th minute. Ahead of the final fixtures of the season on Saturday, league organisers have confirmed adjustments to kick-off time for the matches.

“As we draw closer to the season’s end scheduled for Saturday 27th May 2023, with one match left and yet the difference between the top three clubs is two points; the UPL Secretariat has adjusted the kickoff time for matchday 30 from 4:00 pm to 3:00 pm,” read a s statement from UPL.

“This is done to enable us to hold a successful crowning event at any of the venues for the club that emerges champions for the 2022-23 Uganda Premier League.”

Villa will take on URA FC in the final fixture at Mutesa II Stadium Wankulukuku, Vipers will come up against Jinja SSS at St. Mary’s Stadium-Kitende while KCCA will tackle Bright Stars at Phillip Omondi Stadium.
