Transfer window Done Deal: Sheffield United sign Tunisia star from Brondby

Sheffield United have signed Tunisia midfielder Anis Slimane from Danish side Brondby for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old has joined on a three-year contract and is the Blades’ first summer signing following their promotion back to the Premier League. Slimane made two appearances for his country at the 2022 World Cup.

“The Blades have made a first move in the summer transfer window, acquiring an international midfielder who featured in last year’s World Cup,” read a statement on their official website, adding: “Tunisian Anis Slimane has completed the formalities on a three-year deal, joining from Danish side Brondby for an undisclosed fee, and has linked up with his new United team-mates at Shirecliffe ahead of Saturday’s first pre-season friendly against Chesterfield.”

Slimane was happy to put pen to paper and said: “I like the culture of the club. I heard it is a hard-working club and that reminds me of myself. I love to work hard, and I love to give everything – leave everything out on the pitch. At this club, nothing is given, everything is worked for.”

He continued: “I had a really good talk with the club and the manager and I felt that they had the right plan for me. The manager was really honest and I am excited to be here and looking forward to the Premier League. It is a big opportunity and a big challenge, I am not coming here for a vacation. I have been through a lot in my career so far, even though I’m only 22, but I still have a lot to learn, and I am looking forward to learning every day.”

Slimane holds dual citizenship and made appearances for both Denmark and Tunisia at the youth level, before going on to win 26 senior caps for the latter, scoring four goals in the process. The highlight of his career was representing Tunisia at the 2022 World Cup and his debut at a major tournament saw him start the group game against the country of his birth, Denmark.
