Transfer window Done Deal: Charlton Athletic sign Ipswich Town midfielder Camara

League One club Charlton Athletic have signed Ipswich Town midfielder Panutche Camara on a season-long loan deal.

The 26-year-old Guinea-Bissau international only made four appearances for the Tractor Boys last season after joining from Plymouth and becomes Charlton’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window.

“Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of Panutche Camará on a season-long loan from Ipswich Town,” the club confirmed on their website, adding: “The highly-rated 26-year-old, capable of operating in various positions in midfield, is established at League One level having enjoyed a successful two-year spell with Plymouth Argyle, where he featured 95 times, scored 10 goals and registered 10 assists to earn a move to Ipswich in September 2022.”

After sealing his move to SE7, Camara said: “First of all I would like to thank Charlton for the opportunity to join this football club,” adding: “My conversations with the Manager were very good. He showed me the project and that’s why I signed. I can’t wait to start and meet the fans.”

Charlton manager Dean Holden was pleased to add a player of Camará’s calibre to his squad. He said: “Pan is an excellent addition as he offers us something different in the middle of the park. He’s a good ball carrier who plays with real dynamism and is equally adept in both his defensive and attacking responsibilities.

“He’s a player I’ve admired for a long time for his selfless attitude to do what’s required for the team and his willingness to leave absolutely everything out on the pitch. I’m really looking forward to working with him.”

The Canchungo-born midfielder began his youth career in Portugal with Loures and Vitória de Guimarães before joining Barnsley’s academy. He moved to Dulwich Hamlet in 2017 and, after scoring four goals in 15 outings for the non-League side, earned a move to Crawley Town.

Following three seasons with the Red Devils, which saw him amass 118 appearances and net seven times, Camará signed for Plymouth. While at Home Park, he made his international debut in an Africa Cup of Nations clash against Sudan in January 2022 and claimed his first international goal in a friendly with Equatorial Guinea two months later.
