FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP FIFAWWC: Canada Bounce Back To Beat Ireland To Top Group B

Ireland failed to maintain their leads as they suffered their second loss in the FIFA Women’s World Cup against Canada on Wednesday.

Captain, Katie McCabe scored directly from a corner kick just four minutes to give Ireland the lead.

However, Canada tied the score just before halftime thanks to an own goal in the difficult conditions, and Ireland’s World Cup aspirations were dashed in the 53rd minute when Adriana Leon scored the game-winning goal.

With four points from two games, Canada leads the group, but Australia will try to overtake them by defeating Nigeria on Thursday.

Australia, the co-hosts, must make due with just one acknowledged striker when Mary Fowler of Manchester City was forced to withdraw from the game due to a concussion.

Sam Kerr, the Matildas’ captain and talisman striker, was already out from the team due to injury, as he was expected to miss at least the first two games of the competition.
