Uganda Sebwalunyo bids URA FC farewell after Maroons FC return

Maroons Football Club has completed the transfer of goalkeeper Hannington Sebwalunyo on a two-year deal from URA FC ahead of the 2023/24 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The club announced the arrival of the goalkeeper on Wednesday ahead of their FUFA Super 8 fixture against SC Villa on Thursday. “Many Clubs have been monitoring him in the recent past, so bringing him here is really good news for the Club,” Maroons head coach Mohammed Senfuma said after the unveiling. The custodian then took to his social media pages to pen an emotional farewell to the Tax Collectors.

“Dear URA Football Club,” he wrote, adding: “As I sit down to write this farewell message, a wave of love and joy washes over me. It’s hard to believe that the time has come for me to say goodbye to the club that has been my second home for so many seasons. The memories we’ve created together will forever hold a special place in my heart.

“From the very first day, I stepped onto the pitch wearing the club’s colors, I knew I had found a family. The love, the laughter, and the shared passion for the game have made my time here truly unforgettable. The friendships I’ve formed with my teammates and the bonds we’ve forged will remain with me long after I’ve left.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the coaching staff, the management, the fans, and all the volunteers who have dedicated their time and energy to make this club what it is. Your unwavering support and belief in me have helped shape me not only as a player but also as a person. I am eternally grateful for the opportunities and guidance you have provided.

“To my teammates, thank you for the countless hours of training, the victories we celebrated, and the defeats we endured together. The memories we’ve shared on and off the field will forever be cherished. You will always be at heart.”

Sebwalunyo returns to the club to fill the void left by Simon Tamale, who left for Rwandan Premier League side Rayon Sports. Tamale was voted the best goalkeeper in the league last season and was nominated for the best player of the season, which he lost to Milton Karisa.
