Spain are World Champions after beating England 1-0 in the final on Sunday thanks to an Olga Carmona goal in the first half of the game.

The Lionesses were regarded as the favourites going into the game with Lauren James back in Sarina Wiegman’s match squad.

However, the Chelsea forward was not a starter after serving her two-match ban after walking on Nigeria’s Michelle Alozie butt.

The Spaniards naturally dominated the game and quickly found the back of net in the 29th minute when Caldentey set up perfectly Olga Carmona.

The scoreline could have gone to a 2-0 lead for Jorge Vilda’s girls but Pachuca star Jennifer Hermoso in the 66th minute.

But this does not prevented her team to win the World Cup for the first time in their history as European champions failed to equalize.
