Premier League Arsenal boost as Jesus returns ahead of Fulham game

Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus was back in first-team training on Thursday in a major boost to manager Mikel Arteta.

The Brazilian has been sidelined since the start of August after undergoing knee surgery. Jesus missed around three months of his debut campaign at the Emirates with a knee issue. Following the operation earlier this month, supporters feared a similarly lengthy lay-off for the former Manchester City forward.

“There was a welcome sight in training today as Gabriel Jesus participated in the session, as he stepped up his return to fitness after missing the start of the season through injury,” read a statement on Arsenal’s official website.

“Our Brazilian striker picked up a knee issue during the summer that required a minor procedure, but he was back out on the training pitches at London Colney with the rest of his teammates as they prepare for Saturday’s meeting with Fulham.”

Eddie Nketiah has started both of Arsenal’s two opening Premier League matches this term in Jesus’ absence. The forward scored in a 2-1 win against Nottingham Forest and won a penalty in win against Crystal Palace.
