African players abroad Olunga on target as Al Duhail held by Al Arabi in Qatar

Kenya international Michael Olunga was among the goals as Al Duhail SC battled to a 3-3 draw against Al Arabi in a Qatar Stars League fixture at Al Thumama Stadium on Saturday night.

It was the towering Harambee Stars captain who put Duhail ahead with only five minutes played before Senegal international Abdou Diallo pulled Al Arabi level in the 13th minute. In the 58th minute, Duhail retook their lead when Diallo scored into his own net but substitute Abdulla Hassan Marafee levelled matters yet again for Al Arabi in the 71st minute.

In the stoppages, Ismaeel Mohammad thought he had won the game for Duhail after he scored from close range but Arabi scored seconds later through Omar Al Somah, who converted from the penalty spot, to snatch the vital points.

Duhail coach Hernan Crespo was left disappointed with the penalty decision by saying: “For us, this was not a penalty kick. It is difficult to understand that even with the presence of VAR technology, the penalty kick was awarded, but even with the presence of these modern technologies, I believe that some injustice may occur sometimes,” adding: “We will continue to work on developing and improving our performance as always, I hope everyone does the same.”

Duhail and Olunga will return to action against Al Markhiya in the FA Cup on September 5 at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.
