Uganda Uganda Win Over Niger Not Enough To Get AFCON 2023 Ticket

On Thursday, Uganda defeated Niger 2-0 in the Marrakesh Stadium in Morocco, but they were unable to advance to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

Azizi Kayondo and Joseph Ochaya scored in the first half to help the Cranes upset the Menas, but the victory only gave Tanzania third place on the Group F standings after Algeria and Tanzania drew 0-0 in a game that was taking place at the same time in Annaba.

Azizi Kayondo received an assist from Fahad Bayo in the 17th minute and put an effort beyond custodian Naim Van Attenhoven’s reach to give Uganda a 1-0 lead. Uganda controlled control of the game from the off.

In the 39th minute, Milton Karisa set up Joseph Ochaya for the second goal, making it 2-0 and giving the East African team complete control of the game.

The Cranes continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with another goal.

In an effort to enhance their lead on the scoreboard, Uganda took control of the game in the second half and reenergized their attack with the arrivals of Rogers Mato and Richard Basangwa.

The Cranes were content to sit on their 2-0 lead and wait for Algeria to help them in the other Group F game since more opportunities to score goals were few.

Unfortunately for them, Tanzania kept the North African powerhouses scoreless, negating Uganda’s victory and preventing them from qualifying for the Nations Cup for the first time since 2019.
