Ben Chilwell sustained a hamstring injury during Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. According to manager Mauricio Pochettino, the left-back may be out for some time.

Pochettino reportedly stated that it appears that Chiwell, who was replaced at the very end of last night’s game, has aggravated the two hamstring ailments he has been dealing with, as reported by the Daily Mail and referenced by Football Talk.

The Blues finished the game with ten men after using all of their substitutes.

The West London club has already lost a number of first-team players to injuries, including summer signings Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku.

Additionally undergoing medical care are Marcus Bettinelli, Reece James, Carney Chukwuemeka, Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana, and others.

This year, Nkunku and Lavia have yet to play for Chelsea. While the latter might be available for selection before to their Premier League match against Arsenal in October, the former is scheduled to resume full training in December.

“Is Chilwell injured? Yes,” said Pochettino after Wednesday’s home win.

“We need to assess it tomorrow but I think it is hamstring,” he added.

Chilwell has experienced injury problems ever since he transferred from Leicester City to Stamford Bridge in 2020 throughout all contests.

He has played in 92 games, provided 13 assists, and scored 9 goals.

The new season has not gone well for Chelsea. In the first five games of the 2023–24 Premier League season, the Blues have only won one game and collected five points.

At Stamford Bridge, they defeated newly promoted Luton Town to earn their lone victory.

For Pochettino’s team, the victory over Brighton might serve as a springboard as they head to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham on Monday, October 1.
