UEFA Champions League UCL: Kane Brace Fires Bayern Munich To Round Of 16

Harry Kane, the leading scorer for Bayern Munich, scored twice in the final seven minutes of play to lead his club to a 2-1 victory over Galatasaray on Wednesday.

The win guaranteed the Bavarian a berth in the Champions League knockout stage with two games remaining.

In order to guarantee a top two finish, the England captain, who had scored a hat-trick against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Saturday, headed in a free kick from Joshua Kimmich in the 80th minute and then tapped in his second six minutes later.

With Cedric Bakambu, the visitors reduced the deficit in stoppage time in the second half.

The Bavarians extended their winning streak in Champions League group games to 38 when they struck the post with Kane early in the second half.

With two games remaining, they lead Group A with 12 points and are guaranteed a spot in the top two. After a thrilling 4-3 victory over Manchester United, who are in last place on three points, FC Copenhagen climbed up to second place on four points, equal to Galatasaray.

Both teams had opportunities in an exciting first half as Galatasaray applied a lot of pressure, but Bayern consistently managed to break free from the siege.

After his Galatasaray counterpart Fernando Muslera had made his fair share of excellent saves earlier, Bayern custodian Manuel Neuer did well to deny Mauro Icardi at the conclusion of the first half.

Kane should have given Bayern the lead in the 53rd minute, but his drive at the far post only struck the woodwork. Kane has now equaled the club record with four goals in the Champions League in his first four games for Bayern.

Just after the hour, the Turks believed they had scored as well, but Icardi was called offside.

Galatasaray’s intense style of play caused them to eventually run out of gas and gave the Germans the room they needed to score, much like it did in their opening encounter.

Kane started the move for the second goal by rising high to connect with Kimmich’s free kick in the box. He then finished it at the far post with a straightforward tap-in.

Although Galatasaray reduced the gap in stoppage time, they were unable to find a way to tie the score.
