UEFA Champions League Xavi Wants Barca Players To Be More Consistent After Loss To Shakthar

Xavi Hernandez, the coach of Barcelona, has stated that his team needs to be more self-assured and consistent.

In their last five games, the La Liga champions have won three, lost one, and drawn one.

Barcelona defeated Sociedad following a 2-1 loss to rival Real Madrid at home.

They play Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday in an attempt to win two straight games.

Xavi expressed excitement about the Champions League matchup with the Ukrainian powerhouses and stated that getting to the round of 15 is top priority.

“Qualification is the primary objective, and after that topping the group, and we have both within our reach already.

“We need to start controlling games more. We have recuperating important players like Pedri, Raphina, Lewandowski and Kounde.

“They are vital players for the team.

“But we still need to impose our identify more, that’s the key.

“We want to play excellent football and to win games by a wide margin.

“But that’s the ideal scenario and it’s not going to happen in every game.

“There is also the opponent to take into account and some days you aren’t as inspired as others.

“We need to get back our consistency and make much bigger demands of ourselves in that respect.

“I think we’ve done a very good job.

“Not just me but all the staff, the club, the players.. we are halfway towards making Barca great again.

“We need to get back that sheer excellence we once used to have.”

Barcelona has gained 27 points from 12 games to take third place in the La Liga rankings domestically.
