Africa Soccer 2026 WCQ : Samuel Eto’o congratulates Cameroon players despite Libya draw

Cameroon FA president Samuel Eto’o expressed satisfaction despite Indomitable Lions’ 1-1 draw in Benghazi against Libya on their second 2026 World Cup qualifying match.

Rigobert Song’s team beat Mauritius 3-0 at home for their first game and was confident enough to make another convincing match.

However, Libya turned to be a solid team at their home ground and managed to share points with them.

Even though that was not a good result for Cameroon regarding their standing, Samuel Eto’o is happy for the players’ performance.

“The players of our national team, through their resilience, their courage, in unprecedented adversity, were able to respond”, he wrote on social media.

“Yesterday. In memory of a former footballer, you gave us an unforgettable moment. We saw a national team, ours, which knew how to control its match in intensity and quality. The offensive and defensive transition phases were mastered.

“This, in an atmosphere of hostility breaking with the noble values of football. We witnessed, stunned, the violation of all the rules of reception and fair play in football: our nation’s national anthem was not respected, worse, was mocked. More serious: the twelfth man took the form of a giant laser to prevent and disrupt the game of the Indomitable Lions.

“For this moment of loyalty to the colors of our beautiful nation, I feel the duty to thank the leaders of this valiant team: Franck zambo Anguissa, Clinton Nje, Fabrice
Ondoua. Know that you have won my admiration. Just thank you. From coach Rigobert Song, I borrow from our illustrious leader: one word, keep going! »
