Kenya Alila hails Kenya U18 team, calls on Firat to attend matches

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Presidential aspirant Tom Alila has hailed Kenya’s Junior Stars for sealing their place in the semi-finals of the ongoing CECAFA U18 Boys Championship in Kisumu.

Kenya reached the last eight with a game to spare after defeating Rwanda 1-0 in their second Group A match on Tuesday. The Junior Stars under head coach Salim Babu had won their opening fixture 5-0 against Sudan.

Aldine Kibet scored the all important goal that helped Kenya to defeat the young Amavubi and reach six points from two matches and they are yet to concede a goal.

“I want to congratulate the Junior Stars for the good job they have so far done in the CECAFA tournament,” said Alila, adding: “Winning their first two matches is a strong statement that they mean business and we are rallying behind them to win the trophy. I also want to thank CS for Sports Ababu Namwamba for supporting the team. We know the government support will go a long way to help the team achieve the target if winning the title.”

Alila further called on Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat to attend the matches insisting Kenya’s future lies in the U18 team.

“We want coach Firat to be in Kisumu and follow the progress of the team because this is our future,” said Alila, adding: “We are tired of recycling players and our team for the 2027 AFCON should comprise of this players.”

Kenya will face Somalia in their final group fixture at Bukhungu Stadium on Friday.
