Saudi Arabia Ronaldo becomes leading goal scorer as Mane hits double in Al Nassr win

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice on Tuesday in the Saudi Super League to become the leading scorer in the 2023 season with 53 goals.

“Al Nassr captain, Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the world’s top scorer in 2023 after reaching his 53rd goal against Ittihad today,” the team wrote on X, adding: “He surpassed Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane, who scored 52 goals each.”

The 38-year-old Portuguese successfully converted two penalty kicks in the 5-2 win.over Karim Benzema’s Al Ittihad. Bayern Munich’s Kane and Paris Saint-Germain’s Mbappe both have 52 goals, while Erling Haaland, who plays for Manchester City, has 50 goals.

Abderrazak Hamdallah opened the scoring for the hosts, but Ronaldo’s penalty and a goal from Anderson Talisca put Al Nassr back in front before the break.

Hamdallah scored again after the interval, but Ronaldo converted a second penalty and Mane added two late goals to seal an easy three points for the visitors.

Ronaldo’s second successful penalty came after VAR determined that Fabinho had fouled Otavio in the area, with the former Liverpool player seeing yellow for the second time in a matter of minutes and being sent off.

Mane, who moved to the Saudi Pro League from Bayern Munich in the summer, sealed the deal for Al Nassr with a pair of goals in the 75th and 82nd minute.
