Kenya FKF elections to be held under 2020 Electoral Cord – says NEC

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) have confirmed the much-awaited elections will be held before the end of the year but under the FKF Electoral Code (2020).

The federation’s National Executive Meeting (NEC) passed the resolution during a meeting held on Saturday at their Kandanda House offices in the Goal Project.

A statement signed by FKF CEO Barry Otieno confirmed the development: “Most importantly, the NEC kick-started the process of the FKF elections 2024, scheduled to be held later in the year, by resolving that the said elections will be conducted using the FKF Electoral Code (2020) which was used in the last elections. This provides consistency and transparency in the electoral exercise.”

What is entailed in the 2020 FKF code for the presidential candidates?

  1. An aspirant for the top seat must provide the following: A valid Kenyan ID or Kenya passport and should be above 18 years old, a dully filled nomination form, a running mate also complying with the following documents: NEC member, Committee member, Referee/assistant referee, coach/trainer/technical member/administrator in affiliated FKF matters/league/club, football player.
  2. Declaration of support from at least five (5) FKF members, who have not endorsed any other aspirant, certificate of good conduct (not more than six months old), clearance letter from the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB), clearance letter from Higher Education Loans Board, an acknowledgment document from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, valid tax compliance from KRA, passport size photos and proof of payment (Ksh300, 000 each).

What else was discussed by NEC?

Meanwhile, the NEC further resolved that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which will ratify the FKF Electoral Board and the Electoral Code (2020) will be held on March 16 in Nairobi.

The meeting also unanimously approved the calendar for all national teams, spanning senior team Harambee Stars, Junior sides, and women’s team, and approved the FKF competitions calendar for 2024, covering all federation’s leagues and competitions which will provide clarity for clubs and allowing them to plan for the season effectively.

At the same time, the NEC members discussed and adopted the FKF budget for 2024. The budget will allocate resources towards fulfilling FKF’s core objectives of developing football infrastructure, grassroots programs, elite players development, refereeing, and competitions.
