Napoli De Laurentiis Reveals Osimhen’s Next Club

Victor Osimhen will depart Napoli at the end of the current campaign, as announced by club president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who also ruled out Jose Mourinho taking over as Serie A head coach.

Osimhen, a Nigerian international who is participating in the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, stated to CBS Sports on Tuesday that he had “already made a decision about the next step in his career”.

“We knew about Osimhen since this summer. We knew perfectly well that he would go to Real Madrid, Paris St Germain or an English team,” De Laurentiis told reporters at the end of the Serie A club assembly in Milan on Friday.

Osimhen, who joined Napoli in 2020 for a club-record 70 million euros ($76 million), with add-ons potentially raising that amount to 80 million euros, was a key member of the team that won the league title for the first time in 33 years and finished as the top scorer in Serie A with 26 goals.

He recently inked a contract extension that will keep him under contract until June 2026. According to Italian media, the new agreement has a 120–130 million euro release clause.

Furthermore, Laurentiis denied that Mourinho would take Walter Mazzarri’s post.

Following his dismissal from AS Roma earlier this month, there have been many reports regarding the Portuguese coach’s future, including connections to positions at Napoli and Saudi Arabia.

“Mourinho has nothing to do with Napoli. He is a very funny and impulsive coach, but I feel his destiny lies outside Italy. Surely not at Napoli,” he added.
