AFCON AFCON 2023: DR Congo ambitions is to beat South Africa to bronze medal – Batubinsika

DR Congo defender Dylan Batubinsikan has outlined their mission when they take on South in the third-place play off fixture of the Africa Cup of Nations at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan on Saturday.

After a remarkable run at the 2023 edition, the Leopard lost in the semi-finals to hosts Ivory Coast on Wednesday but according to Batubinsika, there are reasons for him and his team-mates to be disappointed by the defeat, given what they offered since the start of the competition.

“We’ll be disappointed for a while because we had the potential to go all the way,” the Saint-Etienne player said at a press conference as quoted by CAFOnline.

Now they will have to put those regrets to one side and go in search of a bronze medal on Saturday against South Africa, who were defeated by Nigeria at the Stade de Bouake.

“I think we have a mixture of feelings with the elimination, but our ambition is to go and get this medal. We have to stay mobilised to at least finish in third place,” he said.

He added: ”We have to be proud of what we’ve done so far, we’ve had a great run, we would have liked to go all the way but that wasn’t the case.”
