Nigeria Premier League NPFL: Finidi Chides Akwa United For Hiding Match Ball

Enyimba FC’s head coach, Finidi George, has taken a jab at Akwa United for what he claims was unsportmanship attitude during Enyimba’s 3-1 loss to Akwa United: hiding the match balls.

The Enyimba coach lamented in his post-match reflections that the Promise Keepers had hidden the balls instead of storing them to be used again when the one in use went out.

He pointed out that maintaining ball possession can be a method to prolong a game, but he said that such uncivilised behaviour is unachievable at Enyimba.

His words: “We didn’t enter the game properly. We were a bit sluggish.

” A team playing at home, you give them that opportunity to score they will rise

” From that point, we struggled to keep the ball, to push and the get that second goal.

“We tried coming back after that penalty and you push all players to see how you can equalise a counter-attack and they got their third goal.

“I think they deserve to win. You must give them that credit but what I didn’t like is when you were winning, all the balls disappeared.

“Akwa is bigger than that. We don’t do that in Enyimba.

“That is not the best for a team like Akwa United. They should be better than that.

“Let the ball boys do their job. All of a sudden, we were using one ball.

“I must commend them for the victory but they have to be better than that.

“I can’t hide my feelings. That is what I saw and they have to be better than that.

“If it is done to them, I think they will not be happy. Even if you want to waste time, there are ways to delay.

“You can keep the ball possession and waste time with it but not all of a sudden all of the ball boys disappeared and we were looking for ball boys.”
