FA Cup Boost For Man United As Hojlund,Others Return Ahead of Liverpool Game

Rasmus Hojlund, Harry Maguire, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are all expected to return from injury in time for Manchester United’s FA Cup quarterfinal matchup against Liverpool on Sunday, according to manager Erik ten Hag.

They returned on the pitch. Partly in the start of the week and today we had a session that they were all training,” Ten Hag told reporters on Friday. “I think (they will be available).

“We have, (Saturday) one session. We have to see how they recover from this, but it looks good.”

Before suffering a muscular injury that kept him out of action for four games—including United’s 1-0 victory against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup fifth round—Hojlund had scored in six straight games across all competitions. He had eight goals in his previous eight appearances.

United, who now sits in sixth place in the Premier League, takes against a fiery Liverpool team that is tied with Arsenal for the most points in the standings, despite United’s superior goal differential.

At Old Trafford, facing their opponents from the northwest adds some spice to the encounter.

“Some games are bigger than others, I think Manchester United against Liverpool is always a big game.

I am looking forward to it,” Ten Hag said. “The fans see it as a very big game and they are very eager for us to win … our fans have to be loud.

“In such games, we always achieve good performances.

“I don’t think in any really high-rated game that we had any lows. They are very consistent, we need our best to beat them.”

Despite Ten Hag’s team having a difficult season, United is still vying for the FA Cup.

In the Wembley final last year, they were defeated by Manchester City.

Following Liverpool’s 6-1 Europa League victory against Sparta Prague on Thursday, United will be the more rested of the two teams.

Since defeating Everton 2-0 in the Premier League on Saturday thanks to penalties from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford, United has not played.

Liverpool has won the FA Cup eight times, whereas United has won it twelve times, second only to Arsenal’s fourteen.
