Premier League De Zerbi Is Doing An Incredible Job With Brighton- Klopp

Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool complimented Roberto De Zerbi, the Brighton & Hove Albion coach, on Friday for putting in place a challenging yet entertaining style 18 months into his reign in the club.

Klopp said that he could never set up his sides to play in a similar way.

After taking over Brighton in September 2022, De Zerbi led the squad to their best-ever sixth place finish in the Premier League, which allowed them to make their first-ever trip to Europe the previous season.

The first team De Zerbi faced after taking over was Liverpool, who play Brighton on Sunday.

The game ended in a 3-3 draw, and since then, the south coast squad has never lost to Klopp’s team.

“We go for three points, that is clear. But we know how difficult it is against Brighton.

Roberto is doing an incredible job there, it’s a different game against Brighton,” Klopp told reporters.

“We were the first opponents when Roberto arrived and we had no idea what to expect.

“It was quite impressive how quick he got the team playing in his way. Since then it only got better.”

Brighton regularly has the advantage in possession, and their pressing style has also caused difficulties for other sides.

De Zerbi’s team has also scored ten goals in four games across all competitions versus Liverpool.

“It all comes down to possession; we must possess the ball more than we did in previous games against them.

“We have to disturb their flow because it’s not a typical pressing game, Klopp continued.

“The way they play, I couldn’t coach that. It goes against my personality, but it’s a good watch.

“It’s very demanding on the players… On their day, they can beat any team. But the good news is we can do that as well.”

Liverpool still has a long list of injured players on their roster.

Klopp stated that left defender Andy Robertson will take it “day by day” and that he was uncertain about the availability of midfielder Curtis Jones.

Darwin Nunez, a forward, is available though, having recovered from a hamstring injury.

With ten games remaining in a three-way race for the championship, Manchester City is one point behind Liverpool, who are tied with leaders Arsenal on 64 points.

“It’s all tricky and everybody needs luck with injuries, we didn’t have it until now but hopefully the boys are coming back. We need them.

Then it’s about finding a way to win the game,” Klopp said.

“We have found a way which is good for us to play. Before the (international) break we had games against Manchester City and Manchester United.

“In parts of those, we played some of our best football of the season. Now we are back.”
