Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca missed out on qualifying for the CAF Champions League for the first time in nine years.
The Red Castle are having a disastrous season, having first lost the African Football League final to Mamelodi Sundowns, before crashing out of both the Arab Cup and the CAF Champions League from the group stages.
The poor results continued in the domestic scene as they were knocked out of the Moroccan Throne Cup in the round of 32 by JS Soualem as well as sitting fifth on the league table.
Their most recent defeat came at the hand of league leaders AS FAR on Saturday, thanks to Mohamed Rabie Hrimat’s first-half winner. The defeat ensured that Wydad are now 17 points behind second-placed and arch-rivals Raja with only five games left to play, making it mathematically impossible for them to finish in the top two places and qualify for the CAF Champions League.
This will mark the first time the three-time African champions are absent from the Champions League since 2015, having won the 2017 and 2022 editions while losing the finals of both the 2019 and 2023 ones.
