Kenya Shabana will survive FKF relegation axe, insists coach Omollo

Shabana FC head coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo reiterated the team will not be relegated from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League following their 2-1 victory away to fellow relegation candidates Muhoroni Youth on Monday.

In the round of 26 fixture at Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu, Muhoroni took the lead against the run of play through Luke Ochieng but two second-half goals for Shabana courtesy of Mathew Tegisi and Enock Agwanda ensured Tore Bobe registered their second straight victory in the top-flight.

The victory for Tore Bobe came after they had defeated Posta Rangers 3-0 in their previous assignment and according to the former Tusker, Posta, and Kenya Police coach, the Kisii-based Glamour Boys are determined to keep their status in the top-flight at the end of the season.

“I believe that Shabana is going to stay in the league because we deserve to stay in the league, I want to say we have a large followers and we want to do them proud by remaining in the league,” said Omollo, adding: “I believe the last two wins (against Posta and Muhoroni) have given us a lot of confidence and that is what I wanted from the team.”

The former Harambee Stars defender further said should Tore Bobe keep their fighting spirit, they will post another victory when they host Kakamega Homeboyz in their fixture on Saturday.

“I believe against Homeboyz in Homabay, first our fans have to come, because now we need our fans, and I believe we are going to make them proud because we are taking every game like a final and we don’t have any time to relax, we don’t have any laxity in the team and if we give the same fighting spirit, then we are going to get another positive result against Homeboyz,” added Omollo.

The victory enabled Shabana to cut Muhoroni’s point difference in the relegation zone to only one. Shabana remained 17th on the 18-team table with 24 points while Muhoroni are a place above them with 25.

Shabana will next host Homeboyz, who beat them 2-0 in the first-round meeting, at Homabay Stadium on Saturday while Muhoroni will travel to face Murang’a Seal at SportPesa Arena on the same day.
