It’s one year since Algeria defeated Senegal to claim their second Africa Cup of Nations trophy (2019 AFCON) at Cairo International Stadium in Egypt.
July 19, 2019 – July 19, 2020. Algeria team led by Djamel Belmadi was winning AFCON organized by Egypt. They eliminated Nigeria in semi-final thanks to a wonderful free-kick of Riyad Mahrez (1-0).
A quick goal (2nd minute) of Baghdad Bounedjah secured the title for Algeria even though his strike was deflected by Senegal defender Salif Sané. Sadio Mané and teammates did their best to equalize but Aliou Cissé team felt.
The absence of Kalidou Koulibaly cost a lot to Teranga lions as Napoli defender suffered two successive yellow card.
Algeria then won their second AFCON trophy to end 29-year drought. As their very first AFCON title last from 1990.
However, Senegal finished runner-up as it was the case in 2002.
