Nigerian Players abroad Balogun Sets To Leave Brighton After Two Years

Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun is set to leave Brighton and Hoves Albion after seeing out his contract with the Seagulls.

Balogun signed a two-year contract for Brighton on May 22 2018 from Mainz but struggled to get more playing time with the club.

He joined Wigan Athletic on loan in January with the hope of having more game time.

However, after points deduction from Wigan by the English Football League(EFL) that saw them relegated to third division, Balogun decided not to play with the club on Thursday.

The defender in message on his Twitter account recalled his memorable moments while playing for the Sussex.

He also thanked them for opening the door for him to move to the Premier League.

He wrote; “As things have finally come to an end on this strange season I’d like to say thank you @OfficialBHAFC & every soul involved for opening the door for me to Premier League football.

“I’ve felt at ‘home’ from the first second of my time with the Seagulls.

Beating Man Utd in the Amex having you guys singing my very own chant, playing at Anfield and of course scoring against Palace in front of YOU are memories I’ll carry with me forever.

“Thank you for making my time in your beautiful city a time I will never forget!”

Balogun made his competitive debut for the Brighton coming on as an early substitute against Manchester United replacing injured Lewis Dunk.

The game ended 3-2 in favour of the Seagulls at The Amex.

He scored his first goal for the Albion to make it 2–0 against bitter rivals Crystal Palace at The Amex where he scored in 25 seconds after being subbed on replacing Pascal Groß as a result of a Shane Duffy red card for head butting.

The game finished 3–1 to the Albion to claim the boasting rights in the M23 derby.
