Africa Soccer Ex-Township Rollers midfielder retires

Former Be Forward Wanderers (Malawi) and Township Rollers (Botswana) midfielder Lawrence Majawa has announced his retirement from football.

Speaking to Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, Majawa said he had done his part and it was time to pave the way for the new generation.

“I think I have done my part and it is now time to leave the stage for many up-and-coming players to excel. There are many youthful players who are doing a good job. Now it is their time,” he said.

Majawa was so influential at Rollers one report described him as humble, genuine and loyal long-term servant.”

Commenting on his career in Botswana, a fan wrote: “The Great Majawa, we salute you!!! You are a superstar and you will be engraved in the books of Township Rollers history and hearts of Township Rollers fans and family. We wish you good luck to reach those golden ten years and beyond to consolidate your mark in Township Rollers brand will prevail in centuries to come. God bless you Tico, you are a masterpiece of Township Rollers illustrious midfield… Wishing you all the best and a happy family when you retire…”

Capped less than 10 times, Majawa played for Wanderers from 2000 to 2008 when he trekked to Botswana to sign for Rollers.

He played for Rollers for nine seasons before relocating to Mochudi Centre Chiefs where he spent two seasons.
