South Africa head coach Molefi Ntseki gives his voice to a postponement of Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in June. Pointing out the case of qualifiers games which are yet to be completed.

Talking to the official website of South African Football Association (SAFA), Ntseki evokes the organization of the next AFCON in winter. And the Bafana Bafana coach said it should be rescheduled at it habitual period. That is to say in June.

“If we can’t play the qualifiers in September, then I don’t see how will we have the tournament in January,”

“In my view, the [2021]AFCON won’t be played in January. And could be moved to June, it’s original date…” he supposed.

In addition, Ntseki said in case the remaining qualifiers game are not played this year, March and April 2021 will serve to fulfill them. As players will be in their different clubs. And will need FIFA weeks before playing for their mother countries.

The way I see it, the remaining four AFCON matches will need two FIFA weeks – even if it’s back to back, provided the clubs agree,”

“…If there is no play this year, then we may have to use March or April to complete the remaining matches and have the tournament in June. But FIFA has to provide leadership in that regard as they also need dates for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers…” he said.

South Africa is currently second in Goup C with three points. Whereas Ghana leads with six points. The Bafana Bafana will play their next game against Sao Tomé and Principe. A back-to-back clash.

Herve Renad also said he is for a postponement of the competition.
