African players abroad Aubameyang Fires Blank, Jeopadize Golden Boot Race Chance

Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang failed to close up the gap and could miss the chance of winning the Golden Boot for a second successive season.

Aubameyang who won the Golden boot alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane failed to score as Arsenal lost 1-0 to Aston Villa on Tuesday night.

After hitting a brace to help the Gunners reach the FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium last week, Aubameyang was hoping to add to his goal tally.

But it was not a good day for the Gabonese and his side who will miss out of the top six for the first time this season.

The striker has scored 20 Premier League goals this season and he is one goal behind Danny Ings and three behind runaway candidate for the individual accolade, Jamie Vardy.

However, should the former Borussia Dortmund striker could have a chance to scoop the award on the final day at home to Watford.

Aubameyang will need to better his two-goal show against the Hornets from earlier in the season if he is to stand a chance of claiming the Golden Boot.

Also, Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah is still in contention for the Golden Boot award.

The Egyptian currently have 19 league goals to his name and could add to his tally when Liverpool hosts Chelsea on Wednesday night at Anfield.

After Chelsea game where the Reds will also be handed the Premier League title, Salah could also have the chance of scoring  with a trip to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Should the Liverpool forward win the Golden Boot again this sesson, he will become the third player to win the award for a third time, and three times in a row, after Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry.
