African players abroad Daka heartbroken following Leicester’s loss to Spurs

Zambian striker Patson Daka has said he was heartbroken that his goal was not enough to earn Leicester City a win against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

Speaking to Leicester Television, Daka said it was difficult for him accepting they had lost the Premier League match 2-3 at the King Power Stadium.

“If anyone was to tell me that it was going to end that way, I could not have believed that but at the same time, it is football and that is why it is beautiful. It can be frustrating and annoying and, sometimes interesting if it is going your way, so yeah I am very heartbroken,” he said.

The Zambian has since called for togetherness, saying it was time to pick up the pieces and learn from such pangs of defeat that left City lying on a distant 10th place.

When you are in this kind of emotions and everyone is feeling low, the manager is there to show that he is there for us,” he said when asked about manager Brendan Rodgers’ reaction to the result in the dressing room.

“We just have to learn from what has happened and we have to stick together. We don’t have to point fingers but help each other and do better next time.”

Daka said he was grabbing the chance to play with both hands following the absence of Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho with the latter with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.

“It was great to get the goal in the early moments of the game as it kind of gave us direction and more confidence. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, it wasn’t enough,” he said.

Daka, who has three league goals in eight matches this season, put Leicester ahead before Harry Kane levelled matters for Spurs.

Jameson Maddison restored Leicester’s lead only for Steven Bergwijn’s double for Spurs in injury time to deflate the hosts.

Rodgers has since lamented the loss saying: “We looked like we were going to see it through, but to take the equaliser was a little harsh. To concede so late on is very, very naive from us. You cannot do that. There’s obviously a learning which takes place and they’ll be disappointed, but you cannot lose a game like that.
