Women's AFCON Banda leads Zambia’s Copper Queens to win over Banyana Banyana

Zambia’s Copper Queens thrashed South Africa’s Banyana Banyana 3-0 on Saturday in a friendly played at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

The Copper Queens featured a strong team which star striker Barbara Banda led from the front.

The story was slightly different for Banyana Banyana who were without overseas-based players save for Hildah Magaia.

The hosts made their strength in depth count as Banda scored in the sixth and 38th minutes in between Avell Chitundu’s 30th minute strike.

The Southern Africa women’s football giants, who featured at the Tokyo Olympic Games last year, were fine-tuning for the forthcoming Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Banyana Banyana will take on Algeria on February 18 and 23 in the two-legged qualifiers.

Surely, the loss must have given Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis a reality check.

On the other hand, Zambia will welcome Namibia on February 16 in the Nations Cup qualifiers
