Chelsea and Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy chose between UEA Champions league and Africa Cup of nations, the trophy who gave him chills the most.

The 30-year old won the highly-coveted European trophy with the Blues in May as Kai Havertz scored to hand Chelsea their second Champions league trophy against Man City.

Mendy has been brilliant all along the competition keeping 9 clean sheets in 12 appearances.

He deservedly claimed the UEFA Best goalkeeper of the year Award following Chelsea’s triumph.

And so did he in the 2021 Africa Cup of nations in Cameroon where he helped Senegal in lifting their first ever continental trophy as he saved a penalty in final against Mohamed Salah’s Egypt.

And Mendy has once again won the Best Goalkeeper Award even ahead of Pharaohs’ Abou Gabal ‘Gabaski’.

Speaking to French media Onze Mondial, Edouard Mendy named the trophy which brought more joy to him between the UCL and AFCON.

“Yes, I said that winning the AFCON was stronger than winning the Champions League”, Mendy said smiling.

“Some people may disagree with me. But first, this sentence is a feeling, so no one can interpret my feeling for me.

‘Secondly, I won the Africa Cup of nations and the UCL, so I can speak, I can say that there is a difference. When I say that the AFCON gave me 10 times more chills, that’s how I feel.

‘That’s really what happened. Afterwards, when we won the Champions League, we were in the Covid-19 period.

“We didn’t do a parade, we didn’t make communion with the supporters, so that also matters. And when you see what happened in Dakar after the AFCON, I can say that it’s 10 times stronger. »
