Senegal advanced to the quarterfinals of the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt 2023 with a 3-0 victory against Mozambique on Wednesday.

Pape Diallo was the game’s MVP after scoring twice against the Young Os Mambas in the Group A match at the Cairo International Stadium.

Just before halfway, the Generation Foot alumnus gave Senegal a well-deserved lead.

Seven minutes into the second half, his namesake Pape Diop increased their lead. Five minutes from the end, he completed his hat trick with a spectacular close-range header to secure their victory and secure their place in the round of eight.

The Young Teranga Lions’ Mamadou Lamine Camara and Lamine Camara managed the game’s tempo while Samba Diallo, the team’s captain, and goal scorers Pape Diallo and Pape Diop caused havoc in the Mozambique half.

Early on in the game, Senegal made their intentions known as Pape Diallo and Sulaymane Faye had scoring opportunities.

At 15 minutes, Fazito stopped for Mozambique after Diallo intercepted Lamine Camara’s floated pass at the back post.

The goal was nearly missed by Soulaymane Faye’s looping header off of Pape Diallo’s inviting ball into the box.

To counter Malick Daf’s initial Senegal onslaught, the Os Mambas managed the ball in their zone.

On the last kick of the half, Diallo gave Senegal the lead with a close-range tap-in following Lamine Camara’s half-volley that Fazito had directed in his direction.

The former Generation Foot striker performed flawlessly.

At 52 minutes, Samba Diallo sent a hard shot that hit the far post, and Diop quickly extended Senegal’s advantage.

The Os Mamba struggled to generate anything during the game in the Egyptian capital as Senegal showed their dominance.

Diallo, who represented Senegal at the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship in Algeria, added the perfect finishing touch to the mayhem with a beautiful header.
