Europa League Mourinho’s Roma Loss To Feyenoord In Europa Conference League

Feyenoord exacted some retaliation for last season’s Europa Conference League final by defeating Roma 1-0 in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final.

Jose Mourinho’s side put in a lackluster performance, missing a penalty in the first half before Mats Wieffer scored the game’s only goal shortly after halftime.

Roma struggled to get anything going, with Paulo Dybala forced off after 25 minutes with what appeared to be a groin injury, while Feyenoord only threatened with half chances.

Roma were awarded a penalty shortly before halftime after an outswinging corner struck Mats Wieffer on the hand, but Giallorissi captain Lorenzo Pellegrini’s spot-kick hit the left-hand post.

Eight minutes into the second half, Oussama Idrissi’s neat work on the left found Wieffer on the edge of the box, and his volley into the turf bounced past Rui Patricio and into the far corner of the net.

Mourinho’s problems worsened when Tammy Abraham suffered a shoulder injury, and Roger Ibanez was denied an equalizer by a goal-line clearance from Idrissi as Arne Slot’s men clung on to take a lead to the Stadio Olimpico the following day.
