Kenya FKF Cup: Kakamega Homeboyz too good for AFC Leopards, to face Tusker in final

Kakamega Homeboyz will face Tusker in the final of the Mozzart Bet FKF Cup after thrashing rivals AFC Leopards 2-1 in the second semi-final tie at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday.

Homeboyz under Patrick Odhiambo started on a high note and they took a comfortable 2-0 lead at the half-time break courtesy of quick-fire goals from Moses Shumah and Kevin Amwayi.

It was Shumah, who put them ahead in the 31st minute and Amwayi doubled their lead two minutes later after latching onto a through ball from the right to sneak it past AFC Leopards goalkeeper Lucas Opiyo.

Ingwe, who struggled to contain Homeboyz, pulled a goal back courtesy of Cliff Nyakeya in the 89th minute but it was too late as Homeboyz held on to storm the final.

Ahead of the game, Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula had warned AFC Leopards in an exclusive interview with Africa Top Sports that his side will carry the day in the Ingo derby by teaching them a lesson.

“AFC Leopards must be ready for a beating, they must get prepared to lose and nothing is going to stop us [Homeboyz] from beating them,” Shimanyula told Africa Top Sports.

“My only worry, for now, is for AFC fans, if you know you suffer from pressure-related issues please take your medicine before coming to the stadium, and they should also carry painkillers to consume after the game, it will be a total massacre that they will regret to watch.”

Shimanyula added: “By the end of Saturday, we will know who between Homeboyz and AFC is the best, we will beat them in front of their fans, and we will show them how to play football, I want their fans to come in large numbers and witness their team losing.”

Homeboyz will now meet Tusker in the final of the domestic competition. The Brewers reached the final after defeating Ulinzi Stars 1-0 at the same venue in the early kick-off.

Apart from taking home Ksh2 million from the title sponsors, the winner of the domestic competition will earn a direct ticket to represent Kenya in the Caf Confederation Cup for next season.
