Kenyan Premier League Done Deal: KCB unveil Mwalala after leaving Ulinzi Stars

FKF Premier League outfit KCB have confirmed the arrival of Bernard Mwalala as the head coach ahead of the new campaign.

Mwalala was tipped to take charge of the Bankers after he tendered his resignation at Ulinzi Stars three days ago. The coaching role at Lion’s Den fell vacant after Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno failed to renew his contract which run down at the start of July.

“Very pleased to announce that we have officially secured the services of super coach Bernard Mwalala as the club’s new head coach,” KCB wrote on their official social media pages, adding: “Welcome to the Lion’s Den.”

The statement continued: “Coach Mwalala will be deputised by Elvis Ayani aka Valdo who makes his return back home to the Lion’s Den. His backroom staff will also include Samuel Koko as the goalkeeper trainer, Erick ‘Canto’ Muranda as strength and conditioning coach, Michael Oyando as Team Manager, Collins Kyama as Team Physio, Fredrick Juma our long-serving Kit Manager & yours truly Charles Karani.”

The 38-year-old Mwalala is not new in the coaching circles, having handled Nzoia Sugar, and Bandari FC where he guided them to continental football, took charge of Kakamega Homeboyz, before he was fired, and later moved to steer Ulinzi Stars. Mwalala, who also featured in Kenya’s national team Harambee Stars, played his club football in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Malaysia, and Oman.

Last season, the Bankers fell short of winning the FKF Premier League title as they finished fifth on the 18-team table with 64 points from 34 matches. They managed 18 wins, 10 draws and suffered six defeats.
