The Premier League club Chelsea on Thursday announced that Deivid Washington, an 18-year-old Brazilian attacker, has officially joined from Santos.

Financial information was not provided, although British media said the sale was around €20 million, including performance-related add-ons, bringing Chelsea’s close-season spending to almost €400 million.

Washington transferred from Gremio to Santos in 2016, and in 2021, at the age of 16, he signed his first professional contract with the team.

After the forward’s senior debut in April of this year, Santos extended his contract through 2026. In nine appearances this season in Brazil’s Serie A, Washington has scored twice.

He moves from Santos to Chelsea alongside Angelo Gabriel, another 18-year-old who has since gone on loan to Ligue 1 club Strasbourg.
