Uganda SC Villa defender Edward Masembe suffers broken jaw

Record Uganda Premier League (UPL) champions SC Villa have suffered a huge injury blow ahead of their league opener.

The club’s central defender Edward Masembe broke his jaw during their friendly game against Bright Stars on Thursday at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku. Masembe was rushed to St.Catherine Hospital to receive further medical attention after the injury.

Masembe joins Denis Ojara, who suffered a Complete tear of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament(ACL) [Grade 3] during the club’s FUFA Super 8 game against Maroons FC last month. New signing Gavin Kizito Mugweri and club captain Kenneth Semakula are expected to fill up the void.

SC Villa under the stewardship of Serbian tactician Dusan Stojanovic will begin their league campaign against newly promoted Kitara FC on 15th September at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku. Meanwhile, Braddy Jeans Wokorach is now fully a Jogoo castodian after penning a three-year deal until 2026. The shot-stopper assisted his former 2022-23 Big League side club (NEC FC ) to get promoted to the UPL.

He is notable for his ability to command, reflexes, and great ball distribution during play. Braddy Jeans alias ‘Diego Saves’ has previously played for Ndejje University FC between 2018-2021 before crossing to NEC FC 2022-23.

Speaking after signing the deal, Wokorach said: “It’s every player’s dream to play and become a Jogoo at one time, It’s a great opportunity for me coming here and joining the goal-keeping department,” adding: “This is a club with a rich history, tradition and the most successful in the country – I’m so excited to be a part of it for the years to come.

“I look forward to working with everyone at the club and contributing to the team’s success.”
