Uganda BUL tame KCCA FC as Wakiso Giants rally to hold Bright Stars

BUL FC ensured their perfect start to the Ugandan Premier League season continued with yet another hard-fought win on matchday two.

The Eastern Giants who had won their opening game of the season 1-0 away to Soltilo Bright Stars, registered their second victory on Saturday, edging out KCCA FC with the same scoreline. Towering defender Nicholas Mweere scored the lone goal of the game with thirteen minutes left on the clock. The goal would eventually turn out to be the decisive moment of the closely contested game played at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

A well-delivered corner kick by Joel Madondo met Mweere unmarked and goalkeeper Derrick Ochan did not do enough in attempting to find the cross. Victory took BUL FC to six points same as Vipers SC, Kitara FC, and NEC FC. Abbey Kikomeko, charges will return to action next week with a trip to Adjumani to face Arua Hill SC. KCCA on the other hand will have a return against Libya’s Abu Salim in the CAF Confederations Cup next weekend before playing Maroons FC on Tuesday, October 3.

Meanwhile, Wakiso Giants FC came from a goal down to pick their first point of the season as they faced Soltilo Bright Stars FC on Saturday at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium. Both sides came into the game on the back of losses from matchday one. Wakiso Giants were humiliated at home by Maroons while BUL edged Bright Stars at Kavumba Recreation Centre.

In Saturday’s clash, Bright Stars took the lead in the 35th minute through Denis Kaka Omony but Rahmat Ssenfuka leveled matters 13 minutes from time. Wakiso will return to action on Friday next week with a trip to UPDF FC while Soltilo Bright Stars FC on the same day will be at home to URA FC.
