Africa Women's Cup of Nations End of the road for Uganda’s Crested Cranes

Uganda’s journey at the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers agonizingly came to an end on Tuesday in Oran, Algeria.

The Crested Cranes played out a 1-1 draw in the return leg against Algeria, a result which meant the latter advanced to the next round 3-2 on aggregate. In the game played at Stade Olympic D’Oran, the hosts took the lead through Naima Bouhani in the 3rd minute.

Fauzia Najjemba scored the equaliser in the 66th minute, converting from the spot after she was fouled in the box. The result was however not enough to send Uganda to the next round. The team will now shift focus to the 2024 Olympic Qualifiers with Cameroon waiting in November.

The second round matches; Mali vs Guinea, Senegal vs Egypt, Kenya vs Botswana, Nigeria vs Cape Verde, Angola vs Zambia, Ghana vs Namibia, Burkina Faso vs South Africa, Congo vs Tunisia, Tanzania vs Togo, Equatorial Guinea vs DR Congo and Algeria vs Burundi.
