CAF Champions League CAFCL: Yanga SC qualify for group stage after 25 years

Young Africans (Yanga SC) stepped into the group stage of the CAF Champions League (CAF CL) after a 3-0 aggregate win over Al Merrikh.

Tanzania’s envoys produced a 1-0 triumph in the reverse leg match at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam on Saturday. Substitute Clement Mzize’s towering header in the 66th minute has cemented the home side’s opportunity to venture into the last 16.

Mzize has netted in two consecutive Champions League games versus the Sudan giants after doing the same at Kigali Pele Stadium in Rwanda where Yanga cherished a 2-0 success. History was made by the Jangwani-based outfits after missing the CAF Champions League group stage mission for 25 years.

On Sunday, Yanga rivals Simba SC will face Power Dynamos in the second leg of the CAF Champions League match at Azam Complex, another good chance for Tanzania to deploy two teams in the group stage of the competition. Also, Singida Big Stars play Future FC in Egypt in the return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup (CAF CC) match and the former enjoys a 1-0 lead.
