Kenya Nyamweya impressed with turnout as Shabana FC hold AFC Leopards

Shabana Patron Sam Nyamweya was delighted with the turnout of fans as the promoted side secured a 1-1 FKF Premier League draw against AFC Leopards at Ulinzi Complex on Sunday.

In the 13th minute, Ingwe were awarded a penalty, which Brian Yakhama converted to give his team the lead. The early advantage looked promising for the Leopards. However, Tore Bobe quickly responded, with Peter Ogechi finding the back of the net just eight minutes later, levelling the score and putting Shabana back in contention. Despite fervent efforts from both sides, the match concluded with a 1-1 scoreline.

Speaking after the game, which was also attended by Sports CS Ababu Namwamba and Kisii Governor Simba Arati, Nyamweya said: “I take this chance to thank all Shabana players, fans, and all our stakeholders who turned up to Ulinzi Complex, Langata to witness the game between our club, Shabana versus AFC Leopards.

“First, I thank Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu for fully supporting the team, and his financial support towards the team, secondly Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba for personally attending this fete. It shows great honor and respect. I also thank the National Assembly Chief Whip Hon. Sylvanus Osoro for the support they are giving Shabana FC team.”

The statement added: “I thank Kisii Governor Simba Arati and former Governor James Ongwae for their attendance. This shows our leaders are fully supporting and motivating the team. Thank you too Kitutu Chache MP Antony Kibagendi and nominated MP Irene Nyakerario for your attendance. My special thanks to the Shabana FC management led by our Shabana FC Chairman Jared Nivaton and FKF Kisii Branch Chairman Mbegera for the good coordination. I also thank Shabana FC legends led by Henry Motego for their special attendance.”

The former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President further called on the fans to take the draw insisting it was not a bad result considering they were playing against AFC. “To our great Shabana family, a draw is not bad though we must strive to win the next game. Remember, our target is to win the Kenyan premier league, as we thank the stakeholders for always supporting us, we also thank our players for their efforts on the pitch and our fans for traveling all the way to Nairobi to support us,” he said, adding” “Lastly, I thank Warembo na Nyamweya for your dedication and attendance. We must win the next game.”

Shabana will next take on Tusker at Ruaraka grounds on Friday.
