AFCON Andre Onana considering not playing 2023 AFCON with Cameroon

Andre Onana AFCON 2023

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is reportedly considering not to participate in 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Cameroon in Ivory Coast next year as he wants to be fully focused on his club career.

Very far from his best level, Onana is currently one of the weak links at Manchester United. David De Gea’s replacement does not meet expectations.

Worse still, on several occasions he made unforced errors which have already cost the Red Devils precious points. But with his head still held high, the former Barça, Ajax and Inter Milan player wants to turn things around. And for that, he would even be ready to give up the next African Cup of Nations.

While he helped Cameroon qualify on the last day of the qualifiers against Burundi, André Onana could ultimately miss the big continental meeting. Indeed, as ESPN explains this Thursday, the last rampart is hesitant to participate in the AFCON.

The Cameroonian international is well aware that leaving for the tournament that will be played in Ivory Coast would mean missing an entire month of competition with his club.

According to a source close to the player, his priority is to concentrate on his new club after his difficult start. Rigobert Song and Cameroon could therefore face a big blow. To be continued.
