Ajax Amsterdam, who are now second from last in the Eredivisie, announced on Monday that they have parted ways with coach Maurice Steijn effective immediately.
After spending a season at Sparta Rotterdam, Steijn, 49, signed a three-year contract with Ajax in June. However, their sole league victory came at the opening of the season against newly promoted Heracles.

“We came to the conclusion that this is what is best for Ajax, although I regret that,” Steijn told the club website.
“Everyone who knows me knows I have done everything to take Ajax back to the place where this club belongs. But I failed to do so.“
