Saudi Arabia WATCH: Sadio Mane scores to rescue Ronaldo’s Al Nassr in King’s Cup

As his frustration grew, Cristiano Ronaldo became more and more wasteful, with 10-man Al Nassr on the brink of Saudi Kings Cup elimination.

Anderson Talisca’s straight red card in first-half stoppage time put Al Nassr in the hole against Al Ettifaq in domestic cup action, but Ronaldo had numerous chances to put the game to bed yet was unable to capitalise on any.

In stepped Sadio Mane, who produced the decisive moment of the match in extra time of a wild yet somehow scoreless affair, turning in Ayman Yahya’s low cross for the game’s only goal. The late victory saw Al Nassr advance to the quarterfinals despite a number of referee calls that went against the hosts.

Ronaldo showed his frustration with the officiating early and often, booked just 10 minutes in for dissent after screaming in the referee’s face for a no-call. Talisca saw his would-be opening goal nullified on a VAR review after Ronaldo was deemed to be interfering from an offside position, causing another outburst from the Portugal international.

After Talisca’s red card was produced following another VAR review, Al Nassr had it all to do. They themselves survived a number of bad misses by Demarai Gray, and continued Al Nassr pressure seemed likely to find a winner, but none came in the 90 minutes.

In extra time, as fatigue set in for both squads, Mane finally put Al Nassr in front shortly after halftime, and they would hang on to the victory, advancing in the tournament while exacting revenge on Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson for a league defeat earlier in the campaign.
