Premier League Arteta Escapes FA Sanction After Comment On Referee

Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has not been disciplined by the Football Association for his remarks he made against the officials after his team’s defeat at Newcastle United, the FA announced on Thursday.

After the goal stood after three VAR checks, Arteta had called the decision to leave Anthony Gordon’s winning goal in Arsenal’s 1-0 loss on November 4th, unacceptable.

An impartial Regulatory Commission determined that Arteta was not guilty of the misbehaviour allegation against her.

Arteta’s use of the highlighted words did not, whether viewed individually or in their totality, breach FA Rule E3,” the commission said in its written reasons.

“The highlighted words did not insult the match officials (or Premier League match officials generally).

“Nothing was said by Mikel Arteta in any of the interviews that implies incompetence on their part, whether in relation to the goal or more generally did not bring the game into disrepute (and) were not detrimental to the best interests of the game.”
