Chelsea Wolves Spoil Chelsea Christmas Celebration At Molineux

With goals from Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty in the second half, Wolverhampton Wanderers extended their amazing home run to humiliate Chelsea on Christmas Eve, winning 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday.

Lemina headed in a Pablo Sarabia corner six minutes after the break to give Wolves the lead after the first half ended goalless. Doherty then added a second goal in extra time to seal the victory, while Christopher Nkunku scored Chelsea’s first goal.

With 22 points, Wolves, who haven’t lost at home in the league since September, climbed to 11th place, level with Chelsea in 10th place but behind the London team on goal differential.

After losing their last four away games, Chelsea’s eighth league loss of the year came against Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

Raheem Sterling gave Chelsea their finest chance of the first half when he ran into the Wolves area and snatched the ball from Joao Gomes, leaving just the custodian, Jose Sa, to stop him.

Despite having two teammates, including Cole Palmer, unmarked to his right, Sterling sprinted for the finish alone. Sa blocked the shot, ending the three-on-one opportunity.

Six minutes after halftime, Lemina’s header from Pablo Sarabia’s corner found its way into the net, making Chelsea pay for their carelessness.

After Benoit Badiashile mishandled Hugo Bueno’s cross, Wolves increased their lead when Matt Doherty, who was unmarked, beat Chelsea custodian Djordje Petrovic with a shot.
