Nigeria NNL Slam N1m Fine On Crown FC, Ikorodu FC For Assault

The Nigeria National League (NNL) has levied N1 million in fines against Crown Football Club of Ogbomosho and Ikorodu City of Lagos for assaults that occurred during the Conference B’s sixth-day matches.

The NNL states that “both teams were charged for offences of varying degrees that were forbidden by the league’s frameworks.” Article 27.1.3 of the NNL rule book was broken by both sides.

“The General Manager of Crown FC, Olamide Ilupeju, encroached onto the playing pitch immediately after their match against Solution FC of Awka which ended 1-0 in favour of the home side, threw verbal Assaults at the center referee, threatened and promised to deal with him.

” It took the intervention of Anambra State Football Association Executives and security operatives to rescue the situation.

“Reported of assault and hooliganism was the case against Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos at the end of their day six fixture with home side Tradesafe FC.

“The supporters of Ikorodu City threw missiles at the home team players and bench, before the quick intervention of security agents.

“Aside from the fine of N1million each for breaching the rule book, the General Manager of Crown Mr Ilupeju and Ikorodu City Supporters were also handed a final warning to desists from such unholy sports conduct or face stiffer sanctions.

“Both teams have been directed by the NNL to pay their fines on or before the next games on the 6th of January, 2024.”
