Ademola Lookman attributes the Super Eagles’ victory over Cameroon, which enabled them to book their spot in the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals on Saturday, to the teamwork of his Nigerian teammates.
At the Felix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Saturday, Nigeria overcame Cameroon 2-0 to move to the quarterfinals. Lookman scored twice in the victory.
After winning the title of TotalEnergies Man of the Match, Lookman said, “Whoa, we’re so excited to make it to the quarterfinals.
“The more we play together, the more fluid we become.
” I’m standing here now but this award reflects the whole team’s performance.”
“I love this atmosphere, it’s incredible,” says the 26-year-old, who is enjoying his first experience at the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON.
“Because this was Cameroon, and because wearing a Super Eagles shirt makes some games more meaningful than others, our fans tonight drove us to victory.”
Nigeria will take on Angola in the quarterfinals on Friday after defeating Namibia 3-0 earlier on Saturday.
Lookman added: “Angola are a good team. We’ll analyze them and prepare. The further you go, the tougher it gets so we’ll take it game by game.”
